Re: Kirth Kiln - 7-9th august 2009 - the new Noojee
Connor & I sent a thank you email to "The Friends" group.....
I would like to express our thanks for the guided tour of the Kiln & surroundings on Saturday, it was most informative and answered many questions regarding the area we had been asking in the leading up to the event.
Having to relocate our annual Noojee weekend (due to no camping permitted where we once were permitted too) to Kirth Kiln, on our arrival we were more than impressed with the area & it's facility's.
The walking track (& there is numerous) are great, the lake and it's surrounds, are just a beautiful area.
The camping sites were ample in flat ground for tents and the Stone fireplaces generated fantastic warmth for their size.
It is a credit to all whom have put time and effort into the restoration of the kiln and whole of the surrounding area & camp grounds (there are many of these to chose from also, making the decision of where to camp even harder).
When we were asked if we could assist to clear the "Tomahawk" walking track, it was a unanimous & quick decision that it would be our pleasure to give back to those who have provided it for us and for more to enjoy.
Again, many Thanks and extra thanks to Ursula & her offsider (sorry, name slips my mind) for putting up with the mindless chatter & poor humour during the track clearing.
Regards Connor & John Robins
I thought I would share the reply & the pictures we received with it with everyone, not just the folks who attended.
Hallo Connor and John and all the members of the Wastelands Van Club / Van Council of Victoria.
Since Saturday I have been telling people about the fantastic work you wonderful people of the Wasteland Van Club carried out on the Tomahawk track. The track is in perfect condition now; safe for the Boroondara bush Walking Club, walk tomorrow.
After morning tea and a talk about the history of the Kurth Kiln site, our walk will commence on the Tomahawk track. My plan is to continue on on Shepherds Road to Monkhouse track past Monkhouse Dam, them to Shiprock Falls; returning to Kurth Kiln via our paddock and the Thornton Track. If they tire earlier there are many shortcuts back to Kurth Kiln.
It will be great to start off on the lovely cleared Thornton track.
Next time your group comes I would love to take you on a walk. Even a short one along the Thornton track, which butts on to our place (we life just across the creek) and have a cup of tea at our home before finishing the circuit walk.
Please let me know next time you come to Kurth Kiln.
Many, many thanks again to all of you from the Wastelands Van Club
Wishing all of you all the best, Alfred and Ursula

THE KILLER CHAINSAW.
At the Kurth Kiln weekend we all become friends of the friends of Kurth Kiln & were asked to help out to clear the walking track. (As I had a chainsaw & loved to use it). The chainsaw went mad cutting lot of things in sight, (all legally) trees that had groan across the track or fallen. But some came down with a mighty crack then a big crunch to the ground.
So the chainsaw had fun to.
So I called my self the Killer Chainsaw of Kurth Kiln.
Thanks to all that came

Just another quiet Wasteland run..... You just never know what is going to happen, or who you might meet.
