Kirth Kiln - 7-9th august 2009 - the new Noojee

Post  mazdragon on 30/5/2009, 10:09 pm

Hello All,
We have another weekend (Noojee) in Kirth Kiln approx. 9km from Gembrook (Vic). The flyer will be in the mag so make a note in your diary and we hope you can join us. For those that are confused, we used to go to Noojee, but since some knuckleheads (not vanners/related/known to us) decided to wreck the place, they've stopped anyone using the picnic ground for overnite camps. We've therefore, found another place, and if this one is ok, then we may just go back time and again till someone comes up with another suggestion. So join us for the inaugural Kirth Kiln - can't wait for someone to stumble over that name after a few (or more) drinks at around 2 in the morning.... should get interesting Laughing bounce drunken cheers jocolor Rolling Eyes Twisted Evil

How to get there:
Make your way to Gembrook. Then head to Launching Place on the C424 and stay on this road. Take note of your speedo so you can measure 9km. You will go past the Gilwell Scout Camp, with buildings both to the left and right of the main road. You will then pass the Alkira Cottages on the right hand side. Keep going along this road. There are many sharp corners on this road so heed the recommended speed limits. At approx. 9km mark, you will come to an intersection of Soldiers Rd. At this intersection on the left hand side is a water tanker filling pipe. Turn left here. Keep going straight ahead, it’s dirt with a few pot holes but not too bad in the dry. Can be slippery in the wet, so be warned. As you come round a bend further down the track, ignore the camping sign veering to the left and keep going straight. You will come down a hill and notice a large pond on your right, to the left is what’s left of the original Kirth Kiln and shortly thereafter is a turn off into a carpark to the left. Turn here and you’re there.
There are two drop toilets (one female and one male). There are brick fireplaces and picnic tables. The carparks are roped off but flat so sleeping in the vans won’t be a problem. You can pitch a tent as well, though you may sleep on a slight angle. There’s fishing in the large pond and lots of walking tracks if we get bored. BYO water, chairs etc etc. If you realise you’ve forgotten something, Gembrook shops are open on the Saturday, there’s a bakery, Indian restaurant, IGA supermarket, Pizza place, Lolly shop, Newsagent, some collectibles shops as well. Gembrook also has a large pub, so Saturday nite’s meal can be there or at camp. Keep in mind, this is bush and the closest shops/pub etc is 9km away in Gembrook, so BYO everything.
We hope you can make it for the inaugural Kirth Kiln run. If we like it, and it’s unanimous, we’ll go back.

I know it's not the greatest map, but the roads are marked in your Melways.

Thank goodness, that's a big relief...

Looking forward to it only 33 more sleeps!

Glad you're all looking forward to it.... but it shouldn't be as bad as Halls Gap, unless you go right into the bush... Rolling Eyes
