ute to van conversion..

Post  ozbox on 16/2/2010, 9:36 am

last year i purchased a wb ute running a 350 chev t400 and on gas which was a real pig but still registered but not engineered because it was done 20 odd years ago....i then purchased a windowless wb panelvan with a good body and then swapped the bodies......the rest of this story will interest nsw guys... Very Happy

i was just gunna leave the ute rego with the van body but decided that i should be able to do a blue slip for body variant and weight variant..after a couple of calls to blue slip places i found someone that knew what i was talking about...so yesterday i had it blue slipped for a body variant and weight change and the wb ute is now legally a wb panelvan in nsw with no engineers cert and without having to do a new registration....mind you it looks like an hj van as i got rid of all wb stuff...should have it painted and signwritten within the next couple of months but at least its legal and i can drive it.... pirat

Well there you go. Shocked
I was always under the impresion that the chassis number dictated what the finished product would be as we tryed put a one tonner chassis under our 1952 dodge sedan and the RTA told us that it would be rego'ed as a one tonner.that was a few years back. scratch go figure

chassis does dictate rego...ute and van have the same chassis so doing a body swap is only changing the variant and weights on the rego papers as wheelbase is the same and you are not changing the chassis number.. Wink

ute and van are the same chassis and 1 tonner is about 6 inches longer.

Looks really good so far, what dash have you got in it? Are the hj-hz same as the WB?

wb is the same dash as in pad and instruments as hz...im just running stock instruments and will put in some aftermarket gauges for temp and oil...im not fussed on a gts dash for this one as it will be a signwritten daily driver...the muraled hq will get all the goodies.. Twisted Evil
