Technical Section or How to fix it

Post by shaginwagin on 14/8/2008, 2:18 pm

If you have anthing 'Technical 'or 'How to fix something 'that you want to ask, then ask it here. It can be mechanical, electrical, interior, body work, and if it dosen't fit any of these categories ask it here anyway. Don't be afraid to ask the question silent you may think that it is a silly question Embarassed but ask it anyway. Someone will have an answer or they may have already had the same problem and found an answer. So ask away. Julian.

The doctor has left the building. Just had a conversation with Dr. J. and he said someone would be able to help you, not just him. Although he asks, do you know where you left it? Has anyone else seen it?

The $20 is mates rates. He normally charges $45 per consultation. He is wanting to remind you that you have already lost your van, so you've probably lost the itemised account he sent.

building an interior

Post by mazdragon on 20/8/2008, 12:54 am

I've a blank canvas in Beigy, there's no interior apart from the mattress and curtains i have already set up. I'd like to line the roof and have chatted with Phil already about how to go about it and so have been given the general gist of what's required. Now i need to ask the tedious questions of how do you make the ply stay up there? i.e. it sits in the inside "gutters" (for lack of a better description), do i need to glue it in as well? also, i'd like to pad the roof under the fabric i'm going to line it with on the ply that goes in the roof, what's the best glue (?) to use? I've googled van+interiors and how to's, but apart from Black Eagle, there doesn't seem to be any other info. Does anyone know of a good book to reference? Any ideas would be appreciated. And BTW, i'd queried the speedo problems of being wonky on the SXV Forum, but since it's down, i'll let you know here that it was the header in the speedo that was worn, which is why the needle bounced around and the reading was incorrect. It's been fixed and apart from bouncing a little up to 30km, it's steady and accurate now.

drill holes in the 'gutters' and the ply, screw it into place thats how mine is done. about the glue, im not sure maybe ring a local mob and ask what materials they would use if they were to deck out the rear of your van.

hope this helps

Re: Technical Section or How to fix it

Ok Maid Marion,
We put a very basic interior in Dirty Angel (Stephens Van, the son) about 6 months ago, and took lots of pics.
At this stage it has only got the MDF board on the floor 2 lengths 1800 x 1200 x 6mm the walls and roof we used 4 or 5 sheets 1800 x 1200 x 3mm easy to bend. At this stage some pics might help.

Ok The wheel arches are NOT parallel, so its not a mirror image. With the roof, packers are needed over the front, centre and rear roof supports to screw the mdf board onto. mdf offcuts used to pack the wall supports out so the wall panels are level. Floor goes in first, then the roof, then the walls. The roof panels screw from the centre out towards the edges, pushing the mdf board hard against the roof and screwing at the same time(I'm not being rude) VERY IMPORTANT ONLY USE SHORT SREWS To secure the mdf board or you will have lots of screws protruding through the roof. Embarassed Embarassed Anyway that mighty give you some visual ideas. I have to put some further info on about how to do the upholstery, I have pics of the chev undergoing reupholstering, just need to write the story. More will follow.
Julian.
