Millions K's out of reach!!!

Post by Vannin on 4/9/2009, 2:13 am

The van is finally getting a heart transplant!

1992 XF T5 manual.
831,392 KLM's on the clock.

I have had it since 94 when she had only 121,666 (mmm evil I tought too)

Has never had the head off it, engine itself has only had a waterpump replaced 12 months ago, mechanical fuel pump died 2yrs ago and replaced with and electric.

She's had power issues (or should that be lack of power issues) for the last 300,000k's and was really hoping to get her to the 1,000,000 k's....... Was going to put my reco'd spare in, but will save it for the Blue van, Going to put the Ghia Wagon EFI 6 (after a few mods and conversion to Carb) into her!

This week end, they will part company and while I at it the diff is getting changed for a Disc Brake LSD unit from an 87 Ghia Wagon.

So with any luck, I will be able to do hills and keep up with Wicked.

That is slack, I spent 3 hours running round trying to get gaskets, still didn't get any.

It's not like the thing is 40yrs old and a rare thing but no one has them in stock.
Ended up having to order them and wait till today for them to come in.

It's only a Falcon 6 cylinder, they never even had holden 6 stuff on the shelf.

So I spent the time trashing out the Ghia wagon for the bits I need, took Murray down to check out my WB Van (well almost mine)..... Needs alot of love but has great potential.

Have an engineer looking into a diesel conversion and all the legalities of it etc, etc, to see how viable it is and if it's worth doing.

Thanks Matt, came in today & at a better price than they quoted..... it's a carb 250 with efi rocker cover (cause they looks pretty!)

As for pic's Daz....... I will organise some just for you in the daylight!

Still have to degrease the sucker again and slap some Dulux Reco at it, clean down the engine bay when the old one comes out, replace the pwr steer hoses (lots easy when no donk in the way), lots of little things but should be happening by Sunday now, nothing left to do but all the sweating!

This was not meant to be a happening engine swap, the Engine Gods are not smiling............

Broke bolts, EGR pipes would come free.......

But you can turn the old one over with one hand on the balancer with the plugs still in.

The replacement engine is an earlier model so the bloody cranks are different, so a late night flywheel and bolt hunt posse was organised and we got early flywheel & bolts...... only to have one of the pressure plate bolts break in the flywheel on assembly.....

and yes, I did have a heap of Ford Engine Blue laying around.... oil leaks should be easier to spot than a black engine.... then again, paint is on that thick a Dulux Reco would be proud.

Nude UP!

Getting closer to the end..........
Just got a few bits left before turn key and pray time!
Starter Motor, Alternator, fanbelts & Radiator.

Been a bit under the weather for the last week or so I'm not pushing to hard, but as long as it's going for the Broadford run I'll be happy!

Getting more excited about the new van build...... every day something is developing with it.

Van was 1992 Factory carb 6, T5 5speed...
donor, replacement was 86 Ghia Wagon EFI engine.

Swap over was easy... no as big a nightmare as I expected.

Only suprises were Flywheel bolt pattern, as late XF 4.1 engines use the later crankshaft.
