Hq Panelvan Salsbury diff

Post by Pawso1 on 29/3/2010, 11:58 am

Hi guys the 2.78 ratioed diff on my old Hq is noisy at speed. when i took the backing plate off there are teeth marks.
I bought a wb statesman diff 2.6 and want to bang the centre in the 278 diff.
Can it be done.? Are the housings the same.
I read somewhere they are but once you go to 3.08 or 3.55 they are different.
Can anyone confirm I am a chance at the diff centre change over as the disk brake thing sounds like some serious work.???
Thanks Pawso

just make sure that you put in any shims from the 2.6 ratio diff in the same place or it will howl like the wind. it may even still howl anyway due to the wear on the pinion of the 2.78 not meshing right with your 2.6 crown wheel, what box are you using

you will need to put the crown wheel and pinnion in and like said above use whatever shims in order from the 2.6...

2.6 goes into 2.78 housing but not the others..also you may have to put a shim on the front of the crush cone on the pinnion side to take up slack..good luck getting the pinnion yoke undone...they are a bitch sometimes..
