wb diff

Post by mr sinbin on 28/7/2010, 1:59 pm

hi. just wondering the best way to get disk brakes on the back of my van? was looking at just getting a whole new diff, but read somewhere that the statesman disk brake diffs would not fit the van?

i would be probably more inclined to head towards upgradeing the whole lot as ill be running a v6 in the very near future. any suggestions on a good course of action? lol

cheers

matt

I put a Disc brake rear under my HQ pano. Got a diff from a wb stato. The motorvation for the change was the 2.60 ratio as I was about to do a long long trip. Worked a treat, but there is a fair bit of dickin around to get it right. Hand brake cables are a major problem. In the end I'm glad i did it, but only just Smile

does anyone know if it is possible to convert the original drum brake diffs in wb vans to disk brake. my old man thinks it would be able to be done, but hes never done it before. has anyone done this and know how hard it is\what exactly you need to do it?

because i would think it would be a much cheaper option then buying a complete disk brake diff.

cheers

Yes.

The Wheel Studs need to be replaced with longer ones as the Discs are thicker then Drums. Side effect is that it increases your Track, which can be an issue with Wide Wheels.

Then you need all the bits exluding the Diff and Axles.

I bought a complete HZ Statesman Disc Brake Diff Assembly which I have since swapped over onto 2 other Diff Assemblies.

also im pretty sure you have to use the booster/master cylinder out of the car the disc brakes are from. saw a wb 1 tonner with a vn commodore diff under it, just had to add correct brackets to suit leaf springs, i think by doing this it sorted issue with handbrakes

Sorry I forgot.

I didn't have to change the Booster or Master Cylinder, only the Proportioning Valve.
